The ghost and the girl cross the field towards where the ghost tree clings to a boulder. Dragonflies buzz flit out of the way. In the distance, dark birds are barely visible in the post-rain haze.
Silas:I HAD NO IDEA TREES COULD LINGER AFTER DEATH.
Lae: HOW DO YOU BECOME A GHOST?
Silas: WELL, SOME PEOPLE FEAR PASSING ON SO MUCH THEY SIMPLY DON'T. OTHERS HAVE A STRONG OBLIGATION OR DESIRE THAT HOLDS THEM BACK. THERE ARE NO GOOD REASONS THOUGH.
Lae tests the boulder with her weight. The ghost tree's buttress roots are taller than her.
Lae: THE ROCK IS SOLID.
She starts to climb up the boulder towards the trunk.
Lae: HELLO, TREE!
A voice, tinged with the same quality as Silas', comes from the tree's crown.
Tree: GREETINGS, LITTLE ONE.
SIlas' and Lae's faces light up with delight.
Silas: IT CAN SPEAK!

Years in the public school system has taught me to dread the end of summer so even though I no longer go to school, the beginning of September gets me down a little. It's also sad saying good bye to my favorite season. Good bye hot pavement, warm breezes, long days, and barbeque dinners... Hurry back next year!

Do you have a favorite season? Leave a comment and tell me about it~

Their faces, when they realize the tree can talk? It's so adorable!

I wonder what the tree has to say

I enjoy all seasons for different reasons: spring flowers, summer fruits, fall fashions, winter holidays.

Summer for peaches, autumn for Halloween, winter for the potential snow and general cold, and well, spring is kinda meh. :D I'd say Autumn is the best though. Back home it was when it would finally cool down just a teeny bit. And it's the end of hurricane season! Heh

I totally agree! I love summer and it's very hard to see it go. But spring might be my favorite season because I get so incredibly excited seeing plants come back to life.

I am dreading fall as well. 8( Summer is my favourite season too. At least by you, it won't get as gross as the midwest is about to get. XD

I would be sad to do without the variety other seasons can bring (in Portland, that means rain and colder rain) so there are certainly merits to the other seasons. My second favorite season is probably fall since the changing leaves are fun to see. Doesn't hold a candle to sunny summer though. :P And yes, the tree can talk!
