Original script:
The fourth attacker has been hanging back but he now steps forward to face Iyare. Iyare's eyes narrow and he adjusts his stance. The fourth attacker uses his long reaching spear to quickly push Iyare back. Iyare can barely defend himself and streaks of blood appear on his face and arms. He is slowly pushed away from the prince.
The other three attackers make eye contact and suddenly dash towards the opening to Kaga. Tamal can only block one. One of Kaga's stones clonk a second one in the head. Iyare sees the danger and reaches out to block the largest attacker's sword. However, the spearman viciously hits Iyare's side.
Tamal and Kaga (shouting): IYARE!!

One of the blogs I follow, Lines and Colors introduced me to Tadahiro Uesugi. He may be one of my new favorite artists. I love the colors he uses. Everything gets muted in shadow but it's still vivid and colorful. His work reminds me of Mary Blair, of Disney's It's a Small World fame.
If you like atmospheric landscapes, you should check out another favorite: Kawase Hasui. His scenery is from before my parents were born but it still instills nostalgia in me somehow.

Update: I did an interview about making a long-form comic over at Growly Beast's blog. I hope it's helpful to any aspiring story tellers out there!
