My husband and I had a great time at the Emerald City Comic Con. Seattle's weather was unusually beautiful and it was a pleasure to wander around the convention center downtown. But we were there to meet other webcomic creators. It was really hard at first but I managed to give out a couple business cards and and show off my small portfolio of comics. I felt like a freshman in high school trying make friends with the seniors at homecoming. I know I'll make it to their level in a few years but I haven't yet earned the right to get all buddy-buddy with them.

Everyone who I showed my comic to was very kind and encouraging. I got suggestions on ways to improve my art, recommendations of useful books and programs to check out, and referrals to other people doing similar work. My networking abilities are still pretty shy but I feel like this was a good beginning.

Now I am pumped and ready to comic the best I can in preparation for Portland's Stumptown Comics Fest. I hope it will be as inspiring and fun as ECCC.
