The ghost and the girl cross the field towards where the ghost tree clings to a boulder. Dragonflies buzz flit out of the way. In the distance, dark birds are barely visible in the post-rain haze.
Silas:I HAD NO IDEA TREES COULD LINGER AFTER DEATH.
Lae: HOW DO YOU BECOME A GHOST?
Silas: WELL, SOME PEOPLE FEAR PASSING ON SO MUCH THEY SIMPLY DON'T. OTHERS HAVE A STRONG OBLIGATION OR DESIRE THAT HOLDS THEM BACK. THERE ARE NO GOOD REASONS THOUGH.
Lae tests the boulder with her weight. The ghost tree's buttress roots are taller than her.
Lae: THE ROCK IS SOLID.
She starts to climb up the boulder towards the trunk.
Lae: HELLO, TREE!
A voice, tinged with the same quality as Silas', comes from the tree's crown.
Tree: GREETINGS, LITTLE ONE.
SIlas' and Lae's faces light up with delight.
Silas: IT CAN SPEAK!

I thought that Comic Con this last July would be my big convention trip of the year. We're not exactly rolling in money etc. But now my webcomic friends have talked me into going to the New England Webcomics Weekend and I fully anticipate this being even better than the giant event down in San Diego. It's a much smaller convention but it focuses on the community I'm most interested in: Webcomics! Evidently last year tickets sold out long before the show so buy yours soon if you plan to attend!
